Streetscapes

On November 7, 2001, city staff, property owners, development partners, design consultants and neighborhood representatives rolled up their sleeves to tackle the issues related to Streetscapes + Connections in the South Lake Union neighborhood. Sponsored by the City of Seattle's Art, Design, and Planning Commissions, the objective of the afternoon was tri-fold and ambitious: to develop a coordinated strategy for South Lake Union's key streetscapes and connections; to further develop recommendations from the Neighborhood Plan; and to identify areas of consensus and coordination on streetscape and connections issues.

Project Update:
Using the input from the Streetscapes + Connections workshop, CityDesign, the urban design office of the City of Seattle, developed the draft South Lake Union Public Realm Plan, which was issued August of 2002. The goals of this document include developing a plan for South Lake Union streets and open spaces consistent with the direction outlined in the neighborhood plan; the establishment of clear guidance for private and public actions; and streamlining decision-making in the public right-of-way, while informing future public and private design decisions.
